bizhub Highveld Lions trio of Aaron Phangiso, Beuran Hendricks and Dwaine Pretorius took nine wickets between them as India A were handed a two wicket defeat by hosts, the Powerade South Africa A in a low-scoring one-dayer of the Tri-Series.
It was the opening match of the series which features Afghanistan A as the third team. South Africa A, after winning the toss, invited India A to bat. The visitors suffered a batting collapse and were bundled out for just 152.
Beuran Hendricks was impressive with the new ball, claiming 2/15 from his six overs. He opened the account for the hosts, taking two wickets in his opening over, dismissing Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer for seven and none respectively. Phangiso and Pretorius accounted for the middle order and tail-enders, never allowing the sub-continent side to settle in.
The left-armer Phangiso took four wickets for 30 in his 10-over spell which included two maidens.
While Dwaine Pretorius’s put in an all-round effort which included 38 runs and three wickets for 24 to earn him the Man of Match accolade.
South Africa A wobbled at the start of the run chase as the India A seamers picked up three early wickets. The SA A team were stagnate at 70 for 5, but then a 62-run sixth-wicket stand between Behardien and Pretorius turned out to be the partnership that helped the SA A side register two points.
South Africa A will look to continue their winning ways when they confront Afghanistan A at Assupol Tuks Oval on Sunday, 30 July. India will play Afghanistan this Friday at the same venue.
