Lions look to end winless run against the Dolphins
5 weeks after bowling their last ball, the bizhub Highveld lions are back in action this week in the 4 Day Franchise Series as they take on the Hollywoodbet Dolphins at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Wednesday 19 December 2018
Fresh from winning the inaugural Mzansi Super League title, the bizhub Highveld Lions head coach Enoch Nkwe and several players of the Lions pride including Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickelton, and Nono Pongolo will hope to bring the winning mentality they have experienced in the Mzansi Super League back to Lions set-up once they re-join the pride.
The bizhub Highveld Lions are currently sitting second in the log standings behind the Cape Cobras having won three of their opening five matches including one defeat and a draw.
Last time out the Lions claimed a massive 186 run victory over the Cape Cobras in Paarl.
Wihan Lubbe (101) got a century before being trapped for an LBW. Rassie van der Dussen (66) and bizhub Highveld Lions captain Temba Bavuma (51) did well to reach their half centuries to set-up a first innings score of 337.
In reply our bowling attack did well to restrict the cobras to a first innings score of 138 all out with Aaron Phangiso the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-11 runs. Nono Pongolo also picked up three wickets to end the innings with figures of 3-29 runs. Nandre Burger and Bjorn Fortuin picked up 2 wickets each.
Nicky van den Bergh (83) and Rassie van der Dussen (41) were the pick of Lions batsmen in the second innings as the bizhub Highveld Lions posted a second innings total of 233 to record an overall lead of 432. Paterson was the pick of the bowlers for the Cobras, with a second innings five-wicket haul.
In response Fortuin, Phangiso and Burger picked up three wickets each to restrict the Cobras to a second innings score of 246 and ensure a 186-run victory for the Lions
The Lions next task is the Hollywoodbet Dolphins. The Lions have had a sketchy record against the Dolphins having not won a 4-day match against the Durban side in their past five matches recording three losses and two draws.
The Lions are in much better form coming into this fixture and will be looking to pick up more points if they have aspirations of topping the 4-day Franchise series log.
