Unanimously called the ‘batsmen’s game’, the bizhub Highveld Lions batsman have enthralled and awed their fans with an array of masterful strokes, run chases and high scores over the past few seasons.
Opening batsman and franchise captain Stephen Cook will be shouldering the responsibility of the mass bizhub Highveld Lions batsman from the front as the team chases silverware for the upcoming season.
“We have had time to recover from the movement of players and just seeing the incredible players coming through our ranks, the time is right for us to execute our skills and be a formidable opponent,” says Cook who boasts over 10 thousand first class runs at an average over 40.
Combine the returning starters with a handful of newcomers and you have a pretty decent top order. Gauteng returnees such as opening batsman Omphile Ramela and youngsters such as Yaseen Valli will be roaring at the Bullring this upcoming season.
Along with the recent appointment of batting coach, Justin Sammons, who strives to enhance players support and give franchise players the best possible opportunity to up their batting skills.
One of the many batsman to watch out for is wicket-keeper batsman Mangaliso Mosehle who, once he gets going it's almost impossible to restrict, especially in the limited-overs format where he presents a bewildering range of strokes. Thanks to his razor-sharp reflexes and inventiveness, he can carry off outrageous strokes.
Another prominent batsman is Reeza Hendricks. The right-handed opener, scored over a 1000 runs across all three formats last season for the Lions and he will be hoping for another successful season with the bat.
Top order batsman Rassie van der Dussen loves the batting energy that’s is currently in the team. “They’re all doing a good job,” stated Rassie when asked about the new players “They really making a good transition into the team. I’m real excited to see what everyone is going to bring. All the new guys, are all competing. We’ve got some great depth and some good competition.”
